PREPARING FOR SURGERY Every patient in RMH scheduled for a Total Hip or Knee Replacement is invited to attend an intensive pre-surgical education program. You will receive a detailed explanation from the experts. You will learn about joint mechanics and how they relate to your procedure. They will help you to understand what to do prior to surgery, what to expect during your hospital stay and how to care for yourself when you return home. The doctors care and will personally assist you with all of your needs including preoperative education, coordination of your care while in the hospital, and making arrangements for your safe and comfortable transition home.
DURING YOUR STAY, YOU WILL: Be treated by a specially trained healthcare team, including nurses certified in orthopaedics and medical-surgical patient care, physical therapists, and patient care associates that will assist you during recovery, managing pain and swelling. Work with expert on-site physical and occupational therapists that will customize rehabilitation sessions to your needs, ensuring a safe and speedy recovery. Meet with social worker and case management that will identify any needs you may have when you return home.
GOING BACK HOME most of our orthopaedic patients leave the hospital to go home in a short duration after surgery. By this time, you will be equipped with all the information necessary for a full recovery and embark on your journey through rehabilitation and back to a better quality of life. Throughout the rehabilitation outside of the hospital, you can take comfort in knowing that you have the Orthopaedic Department at RMH to support you 24 hours a day. Dr. Suresh Krishnamurthy is a Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon with over 25 years of experience. Dr Dev Anand Galagali is an Orthopaedic surgeon specialised in Foot and Ankle Surgery. After completing his post graduate training in Orthopaedics from Ramaiah Medical College, he underwent a 6 month training in Foot and Ankle Surgery under the Indian Foot and Ankle Society. He also completed a fellowship training program in advanced foot and ankle surgeries particularly total ankle replacements under Prof Hintermann, the pioneer of this procedure at KSBL, Switzerland. He also has a diploma in tissue banking. With experience at major centres like Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi and Centre for Sports Injuries, New Delhi, Dr Dev Anand Galagali provides comprehensive treatment for all foot and ankle conditions.
Areas of special interest: Dr Dev Anand Galagali specialises in treating various foot conditions like flatfoot, complex foot fractures and injuries, diabetic foot, ankle sprain and sports injuries, heel pain, bunions, Achilles tendon issues and foot deformities. His major interest lies in the treatment of arthritis of the ankle and the foot and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for foot and ankle. Ankle fusions and replacements along with minimally invasive deformity corrections are his major areas of expertise.
